Task: Select a Quotation and expand on its effect.

In spite of being the author of the quotation “Good prose should be transparent, like a window pane.” Orwell’s writing is rich with grammatical complexity and textured imagery. 

After I provided and explained an exemplar of how to approach the use of a quotation – where both the meaning and the language effects of the quote were expanded upon – it’s now your turn to have a go.

We discussed overview-wise, the characteristics of dystopia that we will be exploring in this study, one of which you are asked to expand upon with a self-selected quotation. 

We’ll share your first attempts with each other and work on their development in class.
